Women in Manufacturing

Women in Manufacturing

Women are playing an increasingly vital role in shaping the future of manufacturing. From engineering and production to leadership, their contributions are driving smarter processes, stronger teams, and more inclusive workplaces. As the industry evolves with new technologies and demands, empowering women in manufacturing isn’t just about representation, it’s about unlocking the full potential of a diverse, skilled workforce ready to build what’s next.

Women have been part of manufacturing for centuries, even if their contributions were not always recognised. Many worked in textile mills and factories, often in tough conditions for low pay. In both World Wars, women stepped into factories in large numbers to keep production going while men were away, building everything from munitions to vehicles.

Over time, as workplaces modernised and attitudes shifted, more women entered engineering, production, and technical roles more and more.
